SIM Card, eSIM or Wi-Fi Egg?

Are you sometimes stuck on whether you should get a SIM Card, eSim or WiFi-Egg for your next short/long holiday trip? Is getting a SIM card better or getting a Wi-Fi egg is better if you are travelling in a group?

Fret not! Here is a list down of the 3 different options so you know what to get for your next trip.

SIM Card

via The Backpacker

A travel SIM card is a prepaid SIM card that automatically connects you to the local network at your travel location.

Saving you from paying expensive roaming fees with your local SIM card. Your carrier’s plan requires that it be manually inserted or removed from inside your phone. SIM cards are available in a wide range of options and plans, many of which provide significant data inclusions and unlimited local calling, depending on the nation and service provider. Do remember to keep your old SIM Card safely when interchanging with the prepaid SIM Card so you do not lose it during the trip.

eSim

An eSIM (embedded sim) is built-in to your phone and downloads your carrier’s plan indirectly and there isn’t a physical SIM card.

It is more secure than a real SIM. You don’t need to buy, carry, or exchange physical SIM cards, which are also prone to loss or wait for them to come by mail when you have eSIM. It is also available in a wide range of options which provide significant data inclusions and unlimited local calling, depending on the nation and service provider.

However, there are a few potential drawbacks to eSIMs. It is not as simple to switch devices quickly. Currently, you may easily remove the SIM from your phone and place it in another one to use in case it stops operating while preserving your phone number and contact information (if your contacts are stored in the eSIM).

Wifi Egg

via KKday

A Wi-Fi Egg is a compact, easily transportable hotspot device for online access while on the go, similar to a pocket Wi-Fi.

For the duration of your trip, international travellers can rent them to stay connected for the quickest internet connection. The biggest benefit of a portable Wi-Fi modem or mobile broadband service is the freedom to check emails, update Facebook or Instagram, or even browse the internet wherever you are! Sole disadvantage of Wi-Fi hotspots is that depending on how many devices you’ve connected, the strength of the cellular data signal determines how fast your internet connection will be.

It’s usually a good idea to limit your data consumption to avoid paying extra for connectivity while travelling, whether you’re going on a short trip or staying for several months. Prepare for your upcoming vacation by downloading all of the necessary materials beforehand. Before you do, head to KKDay to check out more deals and attractions to make your next holiday an unforgettable one.
