Its proximity to the city makes it easy to escape for a day and enjoy the sand and surf to your heart’s content. Here’s how to plan the best beach day in Bondi!

If you’ve never surfed before, Bondi Beach might just be the best place to start. There are plenty of surf schools for beginners, as well as hire shops for surfers travelling light.

Sydney’s surfing haven boasts curvy waves, and experienced surfers can get the wildest ride in the middle and southern sections of the beach.

The historic Icebergs pool is the most recognizable motif of Bondi Beach, an outdoor saltwater pool connected to the azure ocean, framed by waves crashing on its rocky fixture. It is the most Instagrammable pool you’ll ever encounter, and taking photos on the poolside is as coveted an activity as swimming in it.

Coastal Walk

Discover more of what Bondi has to offer with a barefooted walk on its carpet of fine sand. And then, extend southward exploring other charming little bays and coves until you reach Coogee Beach. This route makes up the famous Bondi to Coogee coastal walk, perfect for those who like a little physical activity during their trip.

Where to Eat — and Drink!

For those who like good nightlife — Bondi’s pubs also have some of the best grub.

Icebergs Dining Room and Bar

Best Time to Go

If you want to experience the fullest energy of the beach, summer is undeniably the best season to hit Bondi Beach. The months of December to February see the most tourists who are after the sunny coastal weather.

However, the months outside of summer — between October and April — are also a great time to visit, especially if you want to avoid the peak-time crowds or enjoy slightly cooler weather.

How to Get Here

It’s quick and easy to get to Bondi Beach from the city centre. Many buses stop at Bondi Beach — you can take the 380, 333, or 389 buses that start from Circular Quay.

If you take the train from Central or Town Hall, you’ll have to get off at Bondi Junction and take a bus to the beach. Best to have your Opal card when commuting!

Other convenient options are a hop-on hop-off bus and private car hire.
