New Shows on Netflix in 2022

The Journalist (January 13)

A small-screen adaptation of the Japanese film of the same name, The Journalist is the first Japanese drama to hit Netflix in 2022. The investigative thriller follows the efforts of dedicated journalist Anna Matsuda (Ryoko) in her dogged pursuits to shed light on political corruption and scandal plaguing the country.

The House (January 14)

Kick off the year with the wonderfully strange stop-motion anthology The House. The eccentric dark comedy tells three eerie tales about the individuals who have made this particular house their home across three different eras. Desperate families, talking cats and mice, and dancing cockroaches come together for a bizarre watching experience in this upcoming series.

Archive 81 (January 14)

If you’re a fan of the found footage genre, the upcoming mystery horror series Archive 81 is likely to tickle your fancy. The story unfolds over two separate timelines, following present-day archivist Dan Turner (Athie) who’s restoring damaged videotapes from 1994, and the original owner of the tapes Melody Pendras (Shihabi) as she films an investigation into a dangerous cult at an NYC apartment building.

A show from the same creators as the popular Scandinavian thriller The Rain, Chosen is a sci-fi series following a group of teenagers who discover that their sleepy Danish town is hiding dark extraterrestrial secrets. And one of them may even stumble upon shocking truths about her own identity.

The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window (January 28)

The title is a mouthful, but The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window is worth a watch. Starring the always charming Bell, this dark comedy sees her heartbroken character Anna spend days staring out the window at her neighbors. It pays off in the beginning when a handsome neighbor moves in across the street—but then she witnesses a gruesome murder (that may or may not have happened for real).

Getting Curious With Jonathan Van Ness (January 28)

Queer Eye fans who have already binged the latest season can get their much-needed JVN fix with the brand new Getting Curious With Jonathan Van Ness. An extension of his podcast of the same name, this reality series brings in a bunch of different experts to discuss a wide range of topics, from ice skating and fashion to gender identity and bugs.

Vikings: Valhalla (February 25)

A century after the events of the original Vikings on History, this spin-off series chronicles the lives of the most famous Norsemen in history including Leif Eriksson and Freydís Eiríksdóttir. Vikings: Valhalla is set in the early 11th century, a period when the Vikings have taken over a majority of England and proceeded to fight for glory through Normandy. If the original show is anything to go by, this is set up to become an epic!

The Witcher: Blood Origin (TBA)

The wildly popular Witcher gets a live-action prequel with The Witcher: Blood Origin, a story that takes place in the elven world about 1,200 years before the adventures of Geralt. This upcoming epic fantasy follows the fierce warrior Scian, a sword elf who’s the last of her tribe and who embarks on a quest to regain her tribe’s sacred sword. Blood Origin also shows how the very first Witcher was created.

Sandman (TBA)

There have been plenty of attempts to bring Neil Gaiman’s cult-favorite comic book Sandman to the small screen, and now it’s finally becoming a reality. The star-studded show revolves around Dream, who escapes imprisonment and sets off to recover three tokens of his power.
