Gangwon-do is a province in South Korea that encompasses 7 cities and 11 counties. Sightseeing in Gangwon-do can be even be done as a day trip due to its short proximity from Seoul. Naksansa (Naksan Temple)

Naksansa is a temple with a 1,300 year history which is highly regarded as one of the eight great scenic areas in East Korea. The Uisangdae Pavillion sits on a seaside cliff overlooking the East Sea. The word “dae” in Uisangdae is used to refer to a structure at a vantage point with beautiful scenery. Although most of Buddha’s halls and pavilions in the temple were razed by a huge forest fire in 2005, it was rebuilt by the Buddhists.

Seoraksan National Park

This national park in Sokcho is expansive, covering 163.6km2. It’s a popular tourist spot because of its geographical features of rocky hills and ridges and diverse flora and fauna. Seoraksan is home to more than 2,000 animal species including the Korea goral, Musk deer, and Other. In addition, there are more than 1,400 rare plant species here.

Although its open all year round, you must make a trip there in Autumn. During this time of the year, heal in nature as you admire the stunning foliage. Consider taking the cable car that runs along Gwongeumseong Fortress 700M above the sea for an amazing view!

While you’re in Sokcho, don’t forget to try dakgangjeong, the region’s signature sweet and sour fried chicken dish.

Alpaca World

This park is the only place in the whole of Korea where you can interact with tame alpacas. Touch their luxuriously soft fur or feed them alpaca food from the vending machines. You can even take the alpacas for a walk around the park! Besides that, the park is also home to other animals, such as deer, rabbits, owls, eagles and birds.

Nami Island

Its a calm place where you can relax within nature. The two rows of redwood trees make perfect photos for the ‘gram.

Stroll around the island, or rent a bicycle to get around more efficiently. If you’re feeling adventurous, take the forest zipline near the entrance for a thrill. The mini Merlion statue in Nami Island is a heartwarming reminder of home for Singaporeans. See if you can spot it!

Gangchon Railbike

Built on a discontinued railway track, Gangchon Railbike is Korea’s largest rail bike course. First, start your course from the Gimyujeong Rail Bike Station. As you cycle through the tunnels, you’ll be treated to mesmerising lights and sounds. After cycling for roughly 40 minutes, you’ll reach Nanggu Village, where you can take a break and board the Romance Train, which has open-air sections for you to enjoy the calm, natural breeze.
