The first long break of the year, and it sure is loooong. Almost amounting to a week, this five-day weekend is definitely one to look forward to.

Labour Day falls on the 1st of May (Sunday) nationwide, and shortly after comes the major festive season of Aidilfitri. As for the latter, the holidays last from May 3 to May 4 all the way up to Wednesday! Brace yourselves for the sea of traffic as families head back to visit their hometowns for the celebrations.

Ever wish the weekend could last just a little bit longer? Then, you’d be thankful that we reside in a country full of colorful cultures!

The Wesak festival is observed by the Buddhists who visit temples as a commemoration of the Gautama Buddha. This year, May 15 marks the day of anticipation, that is on a Sunday. And since it’s a public holiday, you can take Monday off along as well. Take the chance to travel to Penang where you can witness the celebrations firsthand!

While the royal ruler’s actual birthday remains confidential, most of the nation would be elated to celebrate this special occasion.

The king’s big day is on the 6th of June this year, which is a Monday (yay, another long weekend!). On top of that, the school break further extends your time off by another day that is on June 7. So why not hail to the streets of Melaka for a quick getaway?

4. Hari Raya Haji

Hari Raya Haji or Eid al-Adha as it is commonly referred to by the Muslim community, bags the next spot in this holiday line-up.

This holy day of sacrifice is dedicated to remembering the impoverished members of society, whereby almsgiving and charitable deeds are performed. Lucky for us, this event takes place on Sunday, 10 July, automatically granting our Mondays off (except for those in Johor). Meanwhile, Perlis and Terengganu states are given Tuesday as a holiday.

Make the most out of your free time by booking a short vacation at a serene escapade not too far from the city:

Here’s another joyous affair worth waiting for. 16th September marks the day Malaya joined hands with Sabah and Sarawak, hence forming what is presently known as Malaysia.

A time of union and remembrance all in one, this upcoming festivity gives another reason to love Fridays. Yes that’s right, looks like the weekend will be coming early again!
