Treating yourself to a shopping spree doesn’t necessarily mean emptying your wallet, especially in Taytay, Rizal. Dubbed as the Garments Capital of the Philippines, the town is a bargain hunter’s paradise with the bustling center attracting hordes of shoppers daily. One can spend hours browsing the various tents with tiangge vendors selling everything from trendy fashion items to home accessories—all with crazy cheap price tags!
The online portal Taytay Local allows people to buy what they need from the comfort of their own homes but let’s face it, there’s nothing quite like the experience of shopping in a physical store. If you’re one of those who prefer trying out different options, hunting down the cheapest bargains, and haggling for the lowest price, a trip to Taytay Tiangge for a day of shopping is a must. At the actual bazaar, the clothing items can go for as low as P20.
Here, we share some of the things to know about shopping in Taytay, Rizal in the new normal.
How To Get There
Hop on a jeepney, UV express, or bus to Taytay and alight at Taytay Bagong Palengke (New Taytay Public Market). From the market, the various tiangge tents at the Manila East Compound are only a short stroll away.
If you’re taking your own car, take the Ortigas Avenue Extension and the R-5 until you reach the town center. Go on Waze or Google Maps.
Where To Shop In Taytay
By now, Taytay has earned a reputation as the metro’s hub for cheap clothes. There are plenty of halls to explore, but first-time visitors can start at some of the major stops: Bagpi Garment Center, IGPAI Garments Center (Taytay Mega Tiangge), Freedom Bazaar, and My Seoul Tiangge. Many of these shopping centers open earlier than malls at around 8 or 9 AM, so you can fill up with breakfast and start exploring the labyrinth of stalls first thing in the morning.
Wherever you go, you’ll be treated to racks and racks of clothes in a variety of colors and styles. Fashionistas can stay on trend with the bazaar’s extensive collection of garments, from cute co-ords and summery dresses to activewear and sleepwear. Textile stores, outlet shops, and seamstresses are also available.
Due to the sheer affordability and the wide range of stylish options, it’s no surprise that Taytay quickly became just as popular as other shopping hubs like Greenhills and Divisoria.
New Normal Tips For Shoppers
Visitors may be asked to fill out a health declaration form to enter the area. A Taytay Trail QR Pass can also be used in entering establishments. Make sure you have your face masks and face shields on hand as these are required in all areas of Taytay Tiangge. Shoppers are also encouraged to practice social distancing.
Other essentials: a tote bag for your purchases and ample cash for your shopping spree. Fortunately, you don’t need a fortune for a bagful (or two) of brand new clothes—P1,000 can take you very far in Taytay Tiangge!
Taytay Tiangge is located at Manila East Road, Taytay, Rizal.
