Good news, island adventurers—Coron, Palawan has reopened its tourism industry to local travelers on regulated tours!
After a lengthy period of community quarantine, the top tourist destination is welcoming visitors again as Palawan province relaxes its lockdown rules.
In a report by Inquirer.net, municipal tourism officer Kim Ablana revealed that island hopping, scuba diving, and other land-based tours resumed last week, 6 June, as part of an effort to recover the local economy, which is mainly driven by tourism.
Then on 12 June, popular Coron attractions Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, and Barracuda Lake will open their doors to visitors, under the condition that tourists and tour facilitators will follow the modified general community quarantine guidelines.
Island tours have also been limited to 250 people per day, and only up to 30 scuba divers will be accommodated daily.
It has to be noted, though, that the regulated tours can be enjoyed only by residents of the Calamian Group of Islands—at least for now. To ensure this, visitors must present identification documents proving their residence as well as a permit secured from the local Philippine Coast Guard station for their trip.
Currently, the reopening of airports to commercial flights in the province is still in talks, as the area continues to see confirmed COVID-19 cases, with three cited in the records of the Department of Health’s Center for Health Development in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) last Monday afternoon.
