Japan’s Ghibli Museum may have temporarily closed its doors to visitors last March in an effort to stop COVID-19 from spreading, but that doesn’t mean fans of the world-renowned animated film studio can no longer check out the massive collection of character memorabilia and artwork it houses.
Through the museum’s official YouTube channel, you may now embark on exclusive virtual tours of the Mitaka City gem. The short clips—also called “video journals” of the museum staff—will transport you to the otherworldly realm of Studio Ghibli characters.
The video journals also feature reference items and authentic artwork as seen in the wildly successful Studio Ghibli films such as My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Kiki’s Delivery Service—among many others.
Currently, there are only three videos that have been uploaded on the channel, but we can probably expect more posts in the coming days, as the world continues to impose lockdowns and observe social distancing.
