Where to Celebrate the Lunar New Year in Singapore

Draped in striking colors, festive sounds, and endless delight, Singapore celebrates the Chinese New Year in every corner. Chinese residents make up about 75% of the population in Singapore. Chinese New Year used to be a tradition dedicated to traditional deities and ancestors of families.

While celebrations of Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, can be overwhelming, it is your chance to embrace the energy of Singapore as fireworks and parades fill the country from January 25 to 26.

For 2020, the official light-up on the opening ceremony begins on January 4. You can already witness lion dances, street performances, and stalls of various Chinese snacks and goodies. While strolling in Singapore during Chinese New Year, you will come across seasonal markets, lively processions, lion dances, and feasts that highlight Mandarin oranges.

Expect the color red to be everywhere during the season. This is noticeable in lanterns, spring ornaments, clothes, and even the paper packets that contain money that people give to children and younger relatives. Family gatherings and reunions are also a major tradition for the Chinese.

Want to experience all these things up close? Here are the places where you can celebrate the Lunar New Year in Singapore:
