Best Spots To Watch the Taipei 101 Fireworks Display On New Year’s Eve

Ring in 2020 with the party of the year in Taipei 101. The nightlife and party scene of Taiwan are unparalleled with hordes of locals and tourists alike stepping out to eat, drink, and dance away the last night of the year.

One of the best things to do in Taipei during New Year’s Eve is watching the fireworks extravaganza put together at Taipei 101, the tallest building in Taiwan.

The incredible fireworks show of Taipei 101 is one of the world’s most popular New Year’s Eve parties. It starts with an amazing countdown to midnight as the building lights up floor by floor from the bottommost floor. When the clock strikes midnight, a dazzling fireworks spectacle is instantly set off.

Of course, the best place to watch the great fireworks display is in the building itself. Head on over to Taipei 101 to enjoy an unparalleled view of the fireworks from the observation deck on the 89th floor of Taipei 101. Celebrate the after-party in the sky-high building with live performances and free-flowing drinks.

Missed your chance to get the best seat in the house? If you’re wondering to watch the Taipei 101 fireworks display, there are a couple of great spots around the city to see the spectacle. Many gather at the Taipei City Hall Plaza for it, but there are other sites in Taipei to ring in New Year’s Eve in style.

The best views of Taipei can be seen from Elephant Mountain all year round. So, it’s not surprising that the nearby peak is a great spot to see the New Year’s Eve fireworks display light up the city. Embark on a 40-minute trek up to the summit to witness the revelry from one of Taiwan’s natural treasures. Prepare for a steep climb, although the fantastic scenery at the top is a good reward.

Since Elephant Mountain is famous for its breathtaking scenery of the Taipei cityscape, the trails may be quite crowded during New Year’s Eve. Plenty of people hit the trails early to secure a spot, so if this is where you want to see the fireworks, make sure you set off well before the clock strikes midnight.

Another mountaintop alternative to seeing the Taiwan 101 fireworks display is Tiger Mountain. One of the “Four Beast Mountains” around Taipei, it’s a part of the same network of hiking trails as Elephant Mountain and even though it’s quite further away from the city, Tiger Mountain also offers similar views to the better-known tourist attraction.

Tiger Mountain is a good option for travelers who want an easier trail with its summit accessible within just 30 minutes. Since it is less popular than Elephant Mountain, there are usually much smaller crowds here, even on New Year’s Eve.

If you’re not up for a hike on New Year, find a good spot within the city instead. National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Center is a good choice with unobstructed views of Taipei 101’s dazzling fireworks. With the metro station nearby, travelers can get to the site quickly and easily from any hotel in Taipei.

Designed by architect Wang Da-hung, the beautiful National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was built to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen who hailed as the father of the Republic of China.

Make sure you explore the various galleries inside and witness the changing of the guards ceremony at one point during your trip to Taipei, Taiwan. Book KKday’s Private Day Tour of the top attractions in Taipei to visit National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Center and other tourist spots.
