One of the most underrated activities when traveling across Australia is walking along its coastal paths. From clifftop sightseeing to beachside relaxation, Australia has a lot of coastal walks and adventures you’ll definitely enjoy. Here are the most breathtaking ones:

 

 

Bondi to Coogee

If you’re done seeing the top tourist attractions in Sydney, you can slow down and savor the beauty of nature that Australia is known for. One of the best Sydney walks is the Bondi to Coogee walk, which covers a six-kilometer path that stretches across the eastern suburbs in Sydney. Drink in spectacular views of cliffs and ridges, calming bays, and rock pools. You can unwind and feast on Sydney’s delicacies at the restaurants and cafés near the gorgeous beaches. Your family will enjoy the picnic shelters and play areas. The coastal walk itself is not difficult but there are some steep parts and staircases. You’ll need two hours to complete this fun urban walk and another hour and a half should you wish to reach Maroubra. 

 

 

Seal Bay Conservation Park, Kangaroo Island

Adorable sea lions are the stars of South Australia’s Kangaroo Island. The 800-meter boardwalk is a great spot to observe sea lions paddling in the water or interacting with one another. The conservation park is among the protected areas located along the coastline from the east end of Vivonne Bay in the west to the southern end of D’Estrees Bay in the east.

The most stunning views of the South Pacific Ocean are practically guaranteed when you take the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk. The track starts at Notts Avenue near the Bondi Icebergs Club, which is known for its pool that is literally right next to the ocean. Here, you can already soak in great views of Bondi Beach and North Bondi. If you have more time, you can take a beginner surfing lessons at Bondi Beach. As you continue the trail, you’ll pass by Mackenzies Bay, which is on the other side of Marks Park. The second part of the Bondi to Bronte walk encompasses Tamarama Beach to Bronte Beach. You’ll also spot the Tamarama Park and Bronte Park.

 

 

Cape Byron Lighthouse, Byron Bay

This 2.3-mile-long coastal track in Byron Bay boasts unparalleled sights of the rainforest, grasslands, sea cliffs, and beaches. Just follow the path parallel to the dazzling azure sea and watch out for turtles, dolphins, and whales. Detours can also surprise you with incredible sights, surfing spots, and undisturbed beaches. Be at the lighthouse by sunrise or sunset so you won’t miss the dreamlike view of the sky. Built in 1901, the Cape Byron Lighthouse is flocked by 500,000 visitors per year. Aside from sightseeing, you can hang around while drinking coffee and eating cakes, muffins, or brownies at the Lighthouse Café.

 

 

Seven Peaks Walk, Lord Howe Island

If you love longer journeys, the Seven Peaks Walk in Lord Howe Island is the perfect adventure for you. Seven Peaks Walk is a 45-kilometer guided walk that you can complete in five days. You’ll be treated to splendid natural landscapes strewn with volcanic peaks, lush forests, and coastal cliffs.

 

 

Squeaky Beach, Whisky Beach and Picnic Beach track, Wilsons Promontory National Park

Panoramic views of Mt. Oberon await you in the picturesque walk from the Tidal River Visitor Centre to Picnic Bay via Squeaky Beach. This trail is inside the Wilsons Promontory National Park, which lies 200 kilometers south-east of Melbourne. Expect an easy 50-minute walk on the Squeaky Beach. Feel the rounded grains of quartz under your feet and hear a squeaking sound when you walk. Appreciate the astonishing harmony of the turquoise sea, white sand, and the misty blue sky, appearing like a landscape painting from the top of a mountain.

 

 

Noosa National Park, Noosa

Backed by hillside views, woodlands, bayside revelries, and coastline cliffs, the Noosa Heads coastal track inside the Noosa National park offers views over beaches like Sunshine Beach from lookouts at Dolphin Point, Boiling Pot, and Hell’s Gate. You’ll find endangered wildlife like swamp orchid, glossy black-cockatoo, koala, ground parrot, wallum froglet, and red goshawk at the park.
