Must-Buy Korean Snacks

If you’re anything like us, when you’re abroad you like to snoop around the local supermarkets and convenience stores too, checking out what the locals like to eat, while you’re there you might grab a snack (or six) too. Here’s our list of our favorite snacks to munch on and bring back for our friends from Korea.

#1. Banana Milk

These mini banana flavored milks from Binggrae have been around since the 70’s and are incredibly popular in Korea. They don’t only come in regular banana flavor either, with choices including strawberry and melon, there is also a lighter version which contains less sugar.

#2. Kimchi

Something else you can’t afford to miss out on in Korea is their kimchi. The spicy fermented vegetable dish generally has a more powerful flavor in it’s homeland than the ones sold abroad, even if you’ve tried this elsewhere, you need to try the real deal in Korea!

#3. Seaweed

There are so many different varieties and flavors of seaweed in Korea. From original to kimchi and green tea flavors, from dried snacks you can’t stop yourself from eating one after another, to side dishes and sweet and sour seaweed salads. Try as many as you can!

#4. Orion Moist & Chewy Cake

These soft sponge cakes come with a tasty chocolate and red bean filling, but our favorite thing about these cute fishy cakes is the adorable packaging, from the box itself to the individually wrapped cakes, a lot of thought and care has gone into these Orion Moist & Chewy Cakes and it certainly shows.

#5. Honey Butter Chips

The Honey Butter Chips caused a craze on it’s introduction to Korea, with it selling out almost as quickly as it hit the shelves! Convenience stores were forced to hang up signs saying “Honey Butter Chip sold out”. The chips could even be found traded online for over 3 times the price! The craze has since died down, so perhaps now is the time to find out what all the fuss was about.

#6. Crown Butter Waffles

Sweet and crispy, these Crown Butter Waffles are another absolute Korean favorite and they make a great partner for a cup of afternoon tea or coffee.

#7. Butter Caramel Pringles

This particular Butter Caramel Pringles flavor is exclusively only available in Korea. A special sweet buttery taste wrapped up in a pretty in pink Pringles pack, also available in mini size if you just want a cheeky try.

#8. Green Tea Milk Spread

Indulge in matcha treats at home with this O’Sulloc Green Tea Milk Spread. O’Sulloc carefully pick their green tea leaves from their own fields in Jeju Island. Perfect on toast, crackers, buns or anything that could use a matcha pick-me-up.

#9. Instant Noodles

The shear number of instant noodle options in Korea is a little overwhelming, but there are so many delicious ones with flavors ranging from kimchi to cheese to jajangmyeon (black bean sauce) and tteokbokki which is part noodles and part traditional, chewy, Korean rice cakes!

#10. Yujacha

Yujacha or yuja tea refers to a marmalade (juyacheong) or, if mixed with hot water, a delightfully flavorful and aromatic tea. It is made from a type of small citrus fruit called yuja. You can also find powdered jujacha packets for instant tea, much easier to bring home with you too!
