Walt Disney World Has Big Plans For Magic Kingdom’s 50th Anniversary And We’re Already Excited

The Most Magical Place on Earth is turning 50 in 2021 and Disney is planning the biggest party yet, raising the bar of amusement parks once again. Here, we give you a lowdown of the most exciting things you can expect to see in Disney World very soon:

A Bigger EPCOT

Disney is expanding EPCOT—which stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow—with three new neighborhoods. Joining World Showcase, the new lands—namely World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery—will welcome guests in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary.

New Thrilling Coasters

If you love roller coasters, then you will love Disney World’s upcoming coaster rides. Fans of Guardians of the Galaxy will absolutely enjoy the Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, a never-before-seen storytelling coaster that rotates riders through the attraction, fully immersing them in all the action.

Another coaster you should look forward to is the TRON Lightcycle Power Run. While it’s still under construction, it’s already being posed as one of the fastest thrill rides in the Park. It features a semi-enclosed steel coaster that will be blasted off, reaching speeds of more than 97kph. It will open in Tomorrowland, right next to the iconic Space Mountain.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

Those who have been to Disneyland Paris know this exciting ride that will “shrink” you to the size of a rat to see the world in a whole new perspective. Well, it’s coming to Disney World soon, and this sensory experience of a ride will take you on a delicious journey you won’t soon forget!

Awesome Planet

It seems like Disney is very keen on showcasing the world’s beauty, as they are planning to debut Awesome Planet in 2020. This on-screen exploration of the earth will take viewers to see just how wonderfully diverse our planet is.

A Crossover With Cirque Du Soleil

What can get more magical than a visual (and heart-stopping) extravaganza that’s a crossover between the enchanting world of Disney and the top-tier artistry of Cirque Du Soleil? We couldn’t think of anything! Previews are expected to drop in March next year just before the World Premiere on April 17.

A Star Wars Vacation Experience

Star Wars fans—this one’s for you! Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser will allow guests to check-in for a two-night adventure aboard a starship, where they can interact with characters as a story unfolds throughout their stay.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Okay, this one’s not in Florida, but we couldn’t expect anything less from Disney World, especially on its 50th anniversary! Disney will be bringing the party to Disney’s Hollywood Studios next year with Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which will transport the guests to the cartoon world of Walt Disney’s original and beloved cartoon characters.

Facts You Should Know About Disney World:

What year did Disney World Open?

Walt Disney’s vision of creating the Most Magical Place on Earth finally became a reality when Disney World’s Magic Kingdom opened on October 1, 1971.

How big is Disneyworld?

Currently, the land area that the entire Walt Disney World Resort covers is 40 square miles, which is about the size of San Francisco! So the park’s efficient transport system, with about 400 buses in operation, is pretty heaven-sent.

Does Disney World practice sustainability?

You will be surprised to know that over 30 tons of fruits and vegetables are grown and harvested annually at EPCOT’s Land Pavilion, and the fresh produce are actually used in the resort’s restaurants and cafes.
