Taiwan never falls short in offering fun family-friendly activities to locals and foreigners alike.

For thrilling rides and safari experiences, there’s Leofoo Village Theme Park in Hsinchu County. If you’re from a crafty and artsy family, the island also has workshops that will put your DIY skills to a test.

Of course, the capital city Taipei is packed with exciting things to do for all ages—from horseback riding along the coast to food excursions at bustling night markets. If you’re looking for events to join, they have a handful, too!

Soar high on a hot air balloon in Taitung, home of Taiwan’s balloon festival, or dance the day away at Camp De Amigo Music Festival. But if there’s one festival you can’t miss with the kids, it’s Yilan International Children’s Folklore and Folk Games Festival.

A festival that promotes family fun and cross-cultural friendships, Yilan International Children’s Folklore and Folk Games Festival is one of the representative events of UNESCO’s International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF). This year, the month-long celebration kicked off on July 6 and will conclude on August 18.

Held at the Dongshan River Water Park, the festival boasts a wide variety of exhibitions and attractions. It also has events that appeal not just to the younger crowd but to adults as well.

Try your luck at the Dazzling Treasure Chest, an interactive QR-code run installation that allows you to take part in raffles and treasure hunts. Set forth for a laser battle with your family at the Futuristic Paintball gallery. Or, for some artsy fun, paint marine animals at the Aquarium, which will then be brought into life as they are scanned and projected into the underwater world.
