Why Everyone Needs at Least 1 Solo Travel Experience

Everyone wants to go traveling, to go somewhere new, gain experiences and learn about other cultures and their history. The problem is there are always excuses for not doing it, you can’t find the right package or your friends are always busy etc, your trip gets put off time after time and it ends up never happening. Well, it’s time to stop making excuses, just pick somewhere and go by yourself!  Traveling alone might sound scary but it’s not, in fact, here are 5 reasons it’s actually much better!

Decide Your Own Itinerary

One of the annoying things about traveling with a tour group, family or friends is that it can be difficult to decide on where to go next. She wants to go to the museum, he wants to see a landmark and they want to go shopping! Money issues can mean someone doesn’t want to spend any money and another only wants to eat at the most expensive restaurants. Everyone always needs to sacrifice when traveling with others. If you are traveling alone, you get to decide your own plan your own route and at a budget that suits you.

Go at Your Own Pace

You’re enjoying a particular spot, it could be an interesting museum, a cool part of town, a relaxing beach or whatever, the last thing you want to hear is “Come on, let’s go” or “This place is boring, right?”. If you’re traveling alone, spend as a long as you want exploring that quaint historical village or that beautiful botanical garden. Alternatively, if you don’t think a place is all it’s cracked up to be, just move on to the next place on your list. Spend more time at the places YOU enjoy!

Be Spontaneous

When on holiday you’ll have surely come across situations where you suddenly want to check out something that wasn’t part of the plan. If you’re in a tour group, you’ll probably have little option but to keep moving with the group to your preplanned destination. If you’re alone, go wherever the moment and your mood takes you!

Make New Friends

Traveling with others kind of puts you in a little bubble, a bubble of your own people with little interaction with strangers other than ordering food or buying a souvenir. Traveling alone will often open up opportunities to chat with those around you and as long as you’re not too shy or easily embarrassed you might even make some new friends. If they are locals, you could ask for some advice about the area or get some language tips, if they are fellow travelers you could learn what brought them there or share tales with them of your adventures so far.

Rediscover Yourself

Last but not least, traveling alone gives you the opportunity to not only escape your studies, work and all that built up pressure, it also gives you valuable time to yourself. All that time to yourself means, you’ll spend a lot of time talking, thinking and listening to yourself, you may even learn new things about yourself and these experiences can help you grow and improve as a person. You’ll return home with batteries recharged and amazing stories to tell.
