A Guide to the New York Skyline

There is always something to do in the city that never sleeps. You can scour for unique attractions or Instagram-worthy food spots. You can even make like a true New Yorker and roam around the concrete jungle. Learn more about the buildings that make up the iconic New York skyline with our helpful guide:

Empire State Building

Located in the heart of New York, this Art Deco-inspired building is said to be the most photographed in the world. Standing at 1,454 ft., it’s been hailed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. The Empire State Building is also a pop culture icon, appearing in Hollywood classics such as King Kong and Sleepless in Seattle. Check out a panoramic view of the city on the observation decks at the 86th and 102nd floor. We recommend visiting later in the evening to avoid the crowds.

With its beaming sunburst decor and elegant lobby embellished with dark wood and white marble, the Chrysler Building is arguably the most beautiful tower in New York. Don’t miss the impressive statues of grand eagles perched on the corners of the 61st floor.

30 Rockefeller Plaza

Fans of Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show will immediately recognize 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Commonly known as “30 Rock”, it houses television network NBC studios and Rainbow Room, a popular event venue. It is also one of the world’s tallest buildings, making the view on Top of the Rock observatory one of the best in New York.

Flatiron Building

Marvel at the Flatiron Building’s unique shape, built to occupy a triangular plot on Broadway and Fifth Avenue. Like the Empire State Building, it has become a symbol of New York, appearing in movies such as Godzilla during the titular beast’s rampage in the city, and Spiderman as The Daily Bugle’s headquarters.

One World Trade Center

It took over a decade of redesigns before One World Trade Center was built, replacing its namesake that was destroyed during the September 11 terrorist attacks. This building is currently the tallest in the Western Hemisphere, towering at 1,776 ft. Head to the One World Observatory situated on the 100th-102nd floors to see the city’s landmarks.

Woolworth Building is best known for its intricately designed lobby. Inspired by Byzantine, Romanesque, and Gothic art styles, it is adorned with hand-carved ornaments and glass mosaic. These days, the building has been making headlines for its luxury penthouses, selling for up to US$110M.

Statue of Liberty

One of the city’s most recognizable structures stands at the entrance of New York Harbour. Sculptor Frederic Bartholdi and engineer Gustave Eiffel (yes, the same engineer behind the Eiffel Tower!) built this distinguished symbol of freedom and democracy. Lady Liberty, formally known as “Liberty Enlightening the World”, was designated as a National Monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Glimpse a unique view of New York from the Statue of Liberty Crown, perched on the 305-ft tall tower.
