Singapore is proud to be a melting pot of a many cultures, and the Chingay Parade is a lively display of that. With larger-than-life floats, dancing dragons and lions and performers on stilts, the Chingay Parade is often counted as Asia’s largest street performance. Loud and celebratory, this parade makes for a great way to welcome the new year.

With most major Lunar New Year celebrations happening at night, spend the day at Singapore’s Chinatown. Walk through alleys and alleys of generations-owned goldsmiths, medicine halls, teahouses, and kiosks selling food and merchandise. You’ve got everything from chic and trendy, to traditional. In between all the food and shopping, be sure to check out the nearby temples and mosques as well.

Join the River Hongbao Lantern Festival

For Singapore’s largest and most beloved Chinese New Year event, head to the NS Square, the Marina Bay floating platform. Tourists and locals alike flock here to see hundreds beautifully designed lanterns, depicting symbols and figures from old legends, the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac, and more. Many of these lanterns are crafted onsite by expert craftsmen.

All over the area are amusement park rides, street performances, and of course, lots and lots of street food. The event caps with a countdown to the lunar new year and incredible fireworks display.
